The Doghouse Hotel Frilford Heath near Abingdon and Oxford sits with easy access to Abingdon via the A420. The traditional Dog House Hotel started its life in the early 18th century as a smallholding, and in later years became an inn in 1847. The name of the Dog House Hotel has rather an unusual origin. In days gone by, wealthy farming gentry sent their offspring to be educated in Oxford and would arrive there complete with their horses and hunting dogs. The Colleges allowed their students to stable horses but not the dogs! Alas, with nowhere else to house the animals, the proprietor of the local inn offered an invaluable 'dog sitting' service and the venue became known as the Dog House. There is also a tradition that the Dog House came by its name because it was once the kennels for a local hunt. Today the Dog House Hotel is a pretty country hotel set in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. Hotel is a firm favourite with locals and travellers alike and a great base for exploring the local area.

The Bell Inn is situated on the edge of the Cotswold’s, in the Village of Ducklington, just off of the A415 and A40. it is a pre-13th century building with thatched roof and open fires, very much an olde worlde village pub! As you come into the village you will see the village church (origin 1150) the village duckpond and the Bell Inn. The village of Ducklington is a great community and all the locals having a story to tell about the history of the pub and the village and playing old but simple pub games. We have a pool table situated in the lounge area, a TV screen and a hook the ring on the horn! Aunt sally is played weekly and is part of a big Oxford traditional league game, well worth watching! The original part of the pub apparently was built for the workers that built the church, it was then extended to make further bar room a restaurant and B&B.

The Old Court Hotel in Witney is a 16th century building located opposite what was once the local court. Before or after court hours the judges, lawyers and condemned alike would drink in the bar of what is now The Old Court Hotel. The hotel is newly refurbished in a boutique style with a large open-plan bar and restaurant on the ground floor. The bar itself is topped with beautiful red Elm. We have recently added a decked patio to the outside, making it a comfortable area to enjoy food and drinks. All of our rooms and suites have en-suite and tea and coffee making facilities. For those who enjoy a daily workout, Pirate Fitness Club is close by and our guests are invited to use their facilities without needing to pay a joining fee (usage fees may apply). A swimming pool is located at the Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney – a short walk from the hotel. Pets are more than welcome, but we do charge an extra £10.00 per night for each pet guest. Oxford can be reached by buses which run regularly right into the early hours of the morning. The journey takes around 35 minutes. Or, you can use us as a gateway to the Cotswolds, with Burford only 8 miles away. We don’t belong to a chain, so we can be flexible around checking-in and checking-out, please ask us if you have special requirements. Because we’re such an old building, parking can be a little tight, but there is space enough for all of our guests.
