 ZW Scoring Program Setup Tutorial

This is a tutorial on how to set up the ZW application to export results to be uploaded to SailRacer through your web browser easily. After installing and starting the program, follow these steps:

After starting the program, click File and then Open from the drop down menu. You will be presented with the screen above. Using the directory pane on the right, navigate to the folder on your computer which the results file is in and then choose that from the left hand side. Click OK and wait a few seconds for the file to load.

Next, click Administration and select General from the drop down menu. You can select what information you want to be displayed on the results from the various menus here. But to set up the results quickly, you will choose your desired language from the Language Results menu and then click OK to save and exit this screen. You may have to perform this step with each results file you open to be uploaded to Sailracer.

Next we will click the Advanced menu tab and select HTML Output Options from the drop down menu. On the screen pictured, click the box by Use an HTML template file and then click Browse and navigate to where you saved the Sailracer HTML template. Then click OK to save these settings.

Now click Advanced again and choose Use as default from the drop down menu and choose OK on the screen as pictured. This will save the settings we have just configured to save you from browsing to the Sailracer HTML template again when you use a new file or restart the program.

Next, click the Listings tab and choose Results from the drop down menu. You can customize what results and from which fleets you wish to be uploaded. “The SailRacer team who designed our new online nomination system for athlete awards have done a superb job,” said SportsAid’s Awards Manager, Emmanuel Blanchard.

“Not only does this bring significant time saving for all parties involved in this process – the sports, the athletes and SportsAid – but it also allows us to collect an unprecedented set of data on the nominated athletes right from the off. This will have a resounding impact at all levels of the organisation and more widely in the sporting landscape.”

What's on at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012?

The RYA Volvo Dinghy Show, in association with Suzuki and Yachts & Yachting, will be showcasing all the very best that the dinghy sailing world has to offer, over the weekend of 3-4 March at Alexandra Palace, London.

From kit, boats and gear to expert analysis and insight on the Volvo Main Stage and top tips from some of dinghy sailing’s leading experts and coaches in the Coaching Area. With over 200 sailing clubs, classes and associations, chandlers and boat builders and a whole host of exhibitors, all under one roof, the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show is a must for all dinghy sailors.

What to expect for 2012
As has come to be expected from the show there is great line up of informative talks and coaching sessions taking place throughout the weekend from some of the sports leading experts, coaches and sailors.  From towing, tactics and technology to racing rules, trapezing and wetsuit repairs.

We’ll be celebrating our Olympic and Paralympic sailing heritage with the RYA’s ‘Our Sporting Life – Sail for Gold’ exhibition.  On display will be photos and memorabilia through the ages, with items kindly shared with us by past Olympic and Paralympic sailors.

In the West corridor there will be a fantastic centenary celebration display of Jack Holt designed dinghies, kids can enjoy the ever popular treasure hunt or they can relax and surf the net in the Volvo Chill-Out Bubble.

There will also be special visit from Team Volvo's and Skandia Team GBR's 470 pairing Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills. The top sailors will take time out of their busy training schedules to head to the show for the whole weekend to inspire and motivate the next generation of sailors.

“The show has a really unique atmosphere and with the Games on the horizon and guest appearances from Team GBR and Team Volvo sailors, it will have an added buzz about it this year.  So as well as being a great place to get up close to your sailing heroes, you can check out all the latest equipment, boats and kits; meet up with friends, win great prizes and chat with class associations, have fun and much more”, commented Helen Waterhouse, RYA Volvo Dinghy Show Manager.

So, whatever your age and sailing ability there really is something for everyone.  Book your ticket now.  For more information, full show schedule and to book your tickets visit www.dinghyshow.org.uk or call the ticket hotline on 0844 811 0409.

 Sports Collaboration

Our work brings us into contact with many other sports, providing a great insight into the way different sports manage and administer themselves.

SailRacer has been working with SportsAid over the past year to develop an online application and nomination system for UK athletes seeking financial support. SportsAid provides financial support and recognition to the next generations of young British sporting talent, providing 3,000 financial awards each year. Up until last year all applications were made in paper format and SailRacer's brief was to deliver a new online platform which would streamline the application process, ensure key information was submitted and to provide analysis tools to ease the process of selecting athletes, tracking their performance and providing a range of reports.

The SailRacer team who designed our new online nomination system for athlete awards have done a superb job,” said SportsAid’s Awards Manager, Emmanuel Blanchard. “Not only does this bring significant time saving for all parties involved in this process – the sports, the athletes and SportsAid – but it also allows us to collect an unprecedented set of data on the nominated athletes right from the off.”

More: www.sportsaid.org.uk/news/article/new-system-streamlines-athlete-nominations

SailRacer operates on a “knowledge sharing” ethos – so what we develop is automatically able to be used by all our clients. We do not deliver static platforms and you benefit from our system and programme developments.

 A Case Study

SailRacer has been working with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) – the national governing body for sailing - for over four years, to provide a range of innovative solutions including squad applications and management programmes, PY handicap systems, online training tools, meteorology analysis, athlete performance analysis, comprehensive event websites, measurement and certification systems.

SailRacer also supports the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, which is the RYA's highest profile annual event and included on the ISAF Sailing World Cup tour. The 2010 event attracted over 935 entries, as the world of Olympic sailing descended on the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA).

SailRacer delivered the event website - including online entry, results and analysis, media interfaces, big screen link-up, information alerts, social media interfaces and more – which attracted over 50,000 unique online visitors from 130 nations. With such a diverse audience, we need to use tools to inform and engage users from around the world. For example, our alerts service – by email and SMS – sends out automated alerts to subscribers on a range of information. Subscribers to SMS Results Alerts can receive the top three finishers plus their nominated sailor. Data in email alerts is unlimited, so the complete results can be distributed. Alerts can also be used to alert when racing is about to start, particularly useful for attracting viewers to the live tracking. More events are also using alerts for a range of information, such as alerting parents when younger sailors are heading ashore – great for events where the sailors are sailing away from the host club, notifying protest times – useful for events where the venue is large, weather alerts and more. For more info on the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, go to: www.skandiasailforgoldregatta.co.uk

Event Director for the 2010 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, David Campbell-James said, “SailRacer's ability to interpret our needs, identify solutions and opportunities and deliver are outstanding. Their professionalism in collaborating with all the key partners involved in projects has been a big asset, particularly in an event like Skandia Sail for Gold regatta.”

Supporting Sail for Gold, SailRacer provides online camper van booking for the WPNSA - www.wpnsa.org.uk/on-site-facilities/overnight-campervaning – an easy online tool which administers all bookings, sends out automated confirmation emails, collects and reconciles payment.

Your event does not need to be on the scale of Skandia Sail for Gold to benefit from SailRacer – we can provide support to all events whether small or large, national or international. Standard applications which can be set up in a matter of hours include:

Online Entry Systems - administering entries can be one of the most time consuming elements of organizing an event – from receiving and processing the entry through to banking the payment. SailRacer's platform provides a flexible entry system, using RYA standard forms, with automated email systems and payment reconciliation and easy email tools. The way we manage our systems means that the fees we charge to an event organizer are less than you would be charged yourself for setting up an online payment system, plus of course we remove the manual administration. The SailRacer system has processed over 30,000 online entries across more than 1,400 events, ranging from small local club opens to international events.

Online Booking Systems - do you want to provide an online booking system for your sailing courses or perhaps you have a fleet of boats you rent or charter? Our online booking system enables your potential customers to see availability and book in real time. You can be sure the booking is genuine and the payment processed. All platforms can be customised to your brand – ensuring consistency of “look” with your website and other publications.
